1000 Norms Project: understanding foot and ankle health, disease and normality
نویسندگان
چکیده
A primary goal of healthcare is to understand the boundaries of health and normality and identify when abnormalities are harmful. Diagnosis of disease or impairment is often made by comparing results from clinical measures with healthy reference values. At present there is a great need for comprehensive lower limb reference data representing the healthy population. The 1000 Norms Project is currently recruiting to provide reference values for a set of widely-used clinical and biomechanical measures of the foot and ankle. A volunteer sample of 1000 healthy individuals between the ages of 3 and 100 years is participating in the Project. Measures of plantar pressure, gait, ankle range of motion, foot and ankle muscle strength, foot posture and ankle instability are included in the comprehensive battery of items (Table 1). The 1000 Norms Project reliability study was completed in November 2013. Inter-rater reliability was found to be excellent (ICC>.75) for all foot and ankle measures (Table 2). Recruitment and data collection will take place over the next two years. The release of the final database to the international community via a secure, free online network is anticipated to occur in March 2016. The 1000 Norms Project will provide a substantial contribution to our understanding of the range of normal foot and ankle function in healthy individuals. The reference dataset will be a useful tool for disease diagnosis and management, health surveillance

Biomechanical Analysis of the Influence of SACH Foot and Dynamic-Response Foot in Individual With Unilateral Transtibial Amputee During Running
Objective: Amputation of the lower limb due to loss of part of the musculoskeletal structure reduces performance and increases injury during locomotion. The effect of various types of prosthetic feet has been analyzed in several studies during running. The purpose of this study was a biomechanical analysis of the influence of SACH and Dynamic-Response foot on several kinetic variables in the st...

متن کاملThe Effects of Modified Ankle Foot Orthosis on balance in Healthy Older People
Introduction: Balance impairment and related injuries are common in elderly and patients with neurologic disorders. Ankle foot orthosies can influence on balance via improvement of movement disorders. Therefore the aim of this study was to investigate the effects of modified ankle-foot orthosis on balance performance in healthy elderly. Materials & Methods: The research was conducted on ten ...
متن کاملDesign and Evaluation of an Articulated Ankle Foot Orthosis with Plantarflexion Resistance on the Gait: a Case Series of 2 Patients with Hemiplegia
Ankle-foot orthoses (AFOs) have been described to have positive effects on the gait biomechanics in stroke patients. The plantarflexion resistance of an AFO is considered important for hemiplegic patients, but the evidence is still limited. The purpose of this case series was to design and evaluate the immediate effect of an articulated AFO on kinematics and kinetics of lower-limb joints in str...
متن کاملOperating Room Time Savings with the Use of Splint Packs: A Randomized Controlled Trial
Background: The most expensive variable in the operating room (OR) is time. Lean Process Management is being used in the medical field to improve efficiency in the OR. Streamlining individual processes within the OR is crucial to a comprehensive time saving and cost-cutting health care strategy. At our institution, one hour of OR time costs approximately $500, exclusive of supply and personnel...
